Ukrainian people win the reward

On October 19, 2022, the European Parliament awarded the annual Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought to the people of Ukraine. The award is given in honor of their fight against the Russian invasion.

EU 2022 Sakharov Prize for Freedom: Key details

1. The prize consists of a financial reward of 50,000 euros ($49,100), which is distributed among representatives of Ukrainian civil society.
2. The award is named after the late Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov.
